Social media has become an integral part of participating in AIAA forums and the 2017 AVIATION Forum in Denver, Colorado, was no exception. During the forum, attendees posted 2,808 messages in total. These messages on social media reached an audience of millions of students and professionals who were unable to attend the forum in person, or watch on AIAA's livestream channel, helping to spread the word about AIAA events and aerospace innovation and research and development in general.

Brand use of Twitter at #AiaaAviation was particularly strong this year. Companies, government agencies, universities, small businesses, and individuals from around the world tweeted using the #AiaaAviation hashtag in English and several other languages to communicate messages related to the forum to a global audience. This engagement with industry stakeholders and brands on social media demonstrates the continued relevance of AIAA and the forums it hosts.

This year’s AVIATION Forum social media contest spurred a lot of participation from students, entrepreneurs, and engineers who attended the forum. First place went to Greg Drayer Andrade, a product marketing manager at MathWorks. Second place went to Saleh Yakhya, who works on computational fluid dynamics research at ETS in Montreal. They each received an Amazon gift card for their efforts during the contest.

AIAA thanks all who participated!
