Eleven Undergraduates Receive $2,500 Scholarships for 2013–2014 Academic Year

June 19, 2013 – Reston, Va. – The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) and the AIAA Foundation (AIAAF) have selected undergraduate scholarship awardees for the 2013–2014 academic year. Each scholarship was in the amount of $2,500.

The AIAA Foundation presented three Orville and Wilbur Wright Scholarships. The winners are:

  • Braden Hancock, Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah

  • Jaime Katzer,University of Washington, Seattle, Wash.

  • Brookelynn Russey, Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas

The AIAA Foundation presented the David and Catherine Thompson Space Technology Scholarship to:

  • Nicolas Spoentgen, Purdue University, West Lafayette, Ind.

The AIAA Foundation presented the Leatrice Gregory Pendray Scholarship to the Foundation’s top female scholarship applicant. The winner is:

  • Jaqueline Thomas, University of California, Irvine, Calif.

Five AIAA Foundation undergraduate scholarships were presented by AIAA Technical Committees:

  • The Space Transportation Technical Committee presented a scholarship to Callie Sher, Syracuse University, Syracuse, N.Y.

The Digital Avionics Technical Committee presented four scholarships:

  • Miles Bengston, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Daytona Beach, Fla., received the Dr. James Rankin Digital Avionics Scholarship.
  • Caleb Boe, Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa, received the Dr. Amy R. Pritchett Digital Avionics Scholarship
  • Michael Roznick, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Prescott, Ariz., received the Ellis F. Hitt Digital Avionics Scholarship.
  • Michael Portman, Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, Ga., received the Cary Spitzer Digital Avionics Scholarship.

The Liquid Propulsion Technical Committee presented a scholarship to Arth Pande, Embry Riddle Aeronautic Institute, Daytona Beach, Fla.
