AIAA Foundation Announces Winners of Its 2012 - 2013 Undergraduate Individual Aircraft Design Competition Written 10 October 2013

October 10, 2013 – Reston, Va. – Raphael Klein, TU Delft University of Technology, Delft, The Netherlands, has won first prize in the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) Foundation’s annual Undergraduate Individual Aircraft Design Competition, for his design “H.E.L.P. – High Endurance Lightweight Program.” Klein was advised by Dr. Roelof Vos and Dr. Ron Barrett.

The 2012–2013 competition challenged participants to design an extremely light-weight, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV).

Additional winners were:

• Second Prize: Joshua Holland, The University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kan., and Steven Brust, TU Delft University of Technology, Delft, The Netherlands, for their design “Extremely Flexible Light-Weight Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Wing: For the Rukh HALE UAV.” Dr. Ron Barrett faculty advisor.



• Third Prize: Malcolm T. H. Brown, TU Delft University of Technology, Delft, The Netherlands, for his design “Sky-i.” Dr. Roelof Vos and Dr. Ron Barrett, faculty advisors.
