AIAA SciTech 2014 Kicks Off
More than 3,000 Engineers, Academics, Policy Makers, and Students Gather for World’s Largest
Aerospace Conference
January 13, 2014 – National Harbor, Md. – The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) Science and Technology Forum (SciTech Forum) opens today with a keynote address by the Honorable Chaka Fattah (Dem-PA 2nd). Fattah's address will be livestreamed at 8:00 a.m. (EST), at www.livestream.com/aiaa. SciTech 2014 is the world’s largest aerospace forum, bringing together 3,000 representatives from business, government, and academia for a week of dialogue on aerospace research, development, and technology – and the future of the industry.
Featuring keynote addresses and lectures by leaders in the industry, as well as 11 technical conferences with more than 343 individual sessions, SciTech 2014 examines the current state of the aerospace industry, advancements in aerospace technology, and the future of aviation and space innovation. Specific topics will include: R&D investment policy, NASA’s aeronautics strategy, designing aerospace systems for affordability, and additive manufacturing. Speakers include Frank Kendall, under secretary for defense for acquisition, technology and logistics, Department of Defense; C. D. Mote Jr., president, National Academy of Engineering; Marion Blakey, president and chief executive officer, Aerospace Industries Association; Arati Prabhakar, director, Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA); Richard F. “Rick” Ambrose, executive vice president, Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company; Jaiwon Shin, associate administrator, Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate, NASA; David Thompson,chief executive officer, Orbital Sciences Corporation; and Jason Dunn, co-founder and chief technology officer, Made in Space, Inc.
