March 8, 2016 – Reston, Va. – Three members of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) are among the 105 researchers who were named as winners of the Presidential Early Career Awards by President Barack Obama.

“AIAA congratulates these three individuals on their selection as Presidential Early Career Award winners,” said Sandy Magnus, AIAA executive director. “Each of them has distinguished themselves and the aerospace community through their insight, vision and hard work. We look forward to seeing how they will continue to shape the future of aerospace.”

The awardees are:

  • Anya Jones, University of Maryland, College Park
  • Timothy Ombrello, Air Force Research Laboratory
  • Vikram Shyam, NASA Glenn Research Center
The Presidential Early Career Awards program, which was begun in 1996 by President William Clinton, highlights the key role that the administration places in encouraging and accelerating American innovation to grow our economy and tackle our greatest challenges. The awards are coordinated through the Office of Science and Technology Policy. Awardees are selected for their pursuit of innovative research at the frontiers of science and technology and their commitment to community service as demonstrated through scientific leadership, public education or community service.
