AIAA Social Media Contest Results in Online Boost Written 20 June 2016

AIAA once again held a Twitter contest during this summer’s AIAA AVIATION 2016 Forum. The goals of the contest were to spur engagement related to the forum—and the issues discussed there—among the aerospace community in general on social media. Carolyn Woeber won the grand prize in the contest, an Apple Watch. Travis Carrigan and Tristan Wolfe also won prizes.
A total of 1,198 unique tweets were sent by more than 270 contributors using the event hashtag, #aiaaAVIATION. Topics including CFD simulation, drones, and green aviation were very popular on social media during the forum. The messages being put forward by conference attendees were amplified by popular accounts such as those belonging to the Institute or to NASA, and as a result the hashtag was delivered to 17.6 million unique Twitter users.
