The Wall Street Journal reports that FAA Acting Administrator Dan Elwell said at a panel discussion at the Paris Air Show that the FAA is preparing to ease noise restrictions to allow for the testing of new supersonic commercial aircraft. Elwell said that the FAA plans to allow supersonic jets to make more noise than would normally be allowed for an aircraft of the same size, but supersonic jets would not be allowed to make more noise than the largest wide-body jets allowed to fly.
