Airbus Expected To End 2019 With 20% Increase In Deliveries Relative To Last Year Written 19 December 2019
Reuters reports that based on statements made by Chief Commercial Officer Christian Scherer, Airbus “is on course to end 2019 with a rise in its order backlog” thanks to “netting more sales than deliveries across its major products.” Airbus “is expected” to beat The Boeing Company in both orders and deliveries this year. This has been driven in part by the launch of the new “long-range” version of its Airbus A321 as well as “a wave of new business in Asia.” Scherer indicates Airbus “would top 1,000 gross orders this year, up at least 20% from 2018.” On a conference call with French aerospace journalists, Scherer acknowledged the impact of Boeing’s struggles with the 737 Max. He said, “we’re in a growth industry. When you have one player that isn’t playing its part, it’s extremely destructive.”
