CNET News reports that NASA plans to decommission the Spitzer Space Telescope on January 30. The telescope had been “unraveling the mysteries of the cosmos since its launch on Aug. 25, 2003.” The mission “lasted much longer than expected,” but as the telescope “has been drifting away from Earth,” the “distance made it too challenging to continue to operate the observatory.”
