Thomas Edwards Chief Technical Officer Crown Consulting

Dr. Edwards is the Chief Technology Officer at Crown Consulting, Inc. In this capacity, he provides technical leadership to Crown’s programs, and spearheads Crown’s efforts to help its clients embrace new aerospace technologies. He also guides Crown in broadening its aerospace market reach, forging partnerships with commercial and government aerospace research organizations. The emerging opportunities in Urban Air Mobility have been a particular focus of his work.
Prior to his current position, Dr. Edwards enjoyed a 35-year career at NASA Ames Research Center. His most recent position was Deputy Center Director, with responsibility for research in aeronautics, science, and exploration technology. He was also responsible for the operation of national R&D facilities and maintaining strategic partnerships in the US and internationally, with overall funding of $900M annually. He began his career with NASA in 1983, and served in a variety of research and managerial assignments in fields including computational fluid dynamics, aircraft design, aerothermodynamics, information technology, and aviation operations. A major theme of his career involved leading-edge research in the development of air traffic management automation tools. At NASA Ames Research Center, he helped to deliver to the FAA such critical NEXTGEN technologies as the Terminal Sequencing and Spacing System.
Dr. Edwards is a graduate of Princeton University, with Master’s and PhD degrees in Aeronautics and Astronautics from Stanford University. As a Sloan Fellow, he holds a Master of Science in Management from the Stanford Graduate School of Business. Dr. Edwards is a Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.
