The Task & Purpose  reported that last Thursday, the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory at Kirtland AFB in New Mexico demonstrated a new “high-powered microwave weapon” that can “instantaneously down swarms of enemy drones.” In the demonstration, the Tactical High Power Microwave Operational Responder, or THOR, system, “disabled the unmanned aerial vehicle in a flash, sending it spiraling to the ground the moment the electromagnetic ray hit it.” Air Force Program Manager Amber Anderson said, “It’s built to negate swarms of drones. ... We want to drop many of them at one time without a single leaker getting through.” (Image Credit: Raytheon)
