Forbes reports that “with no passengers filling aircraft seats as demand dwindles in the wake of Covid-19, an increasing number of airlines are now piling cargo in the cabins of their aircraft in the hope to generate at least a fraction of the revenue they would have generated under normal circumstances.” On Thursday, Etihad Airways “became the latest airline to announce the launch of a so-called ‘passenger freighter network’ or the use of passenger aircraft on cargo-only missions.” Etihad airlines “is redeploying some of its Boeing 787-10 jets as freighters to operate 34 weekly flights, serving 10 markets initially. The Dreamliners will complement Etihad Cargo’ dedicated fleet of Boeing 777 freighters to ensure the continuity of vital imports into the UAE including fruits, vegetables, meat, medical supplies, mail and ecommerce.
