AIAA Announces 2021 Forum Changes Written 1 March 2021

2021 AIAA AVIATION Forum Moves to 2–6 August; 2021 AIAA Propulsion and Energy Forum 9–11 August; Both Will Be Fully-Virtual Events
March 1, 2021 – Reston, Va. – The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) announced that the 2021 AIAA AVIATION Forum will now be held 2–6 August 2021. AIAA Propulsion and Energy Forum will remain 9–11 August. Both events will be fully online.
The 2021 AIAA AVIATION Forum theme – “Aerospace Leadership in a Transitioning World” – is more relevant now than ever. Commercial air travel dropped to an unprecedented level in 2020, but innovation in mobility did not. Whether through digital transformation, decarbonization, or autonomous operations, the bold nature of aviation is not slowing. Discover how the aerospace community can maneuver and lead during uncertainty. Join us as we actively build a better future.
“Continuing to connect with the entire integrated spectrum of aviation business, research, development, and technology is vital to help keep our industry moving forward,” said Dan Dumbacher, AIAA Executive Director. “For the health and safety of our members, forum attendees and the AIAA staff, we believe we should continue delivering high quality virtual-only experiences for several more months into 2021. Changing the dates for the 2021 AIAA AVIATION Forum positions the event conveniently alongside the 2021 AIAA Propulsion and Energy Forum.”
The 2021 AIAA Propulsion and Energy Forum will be held virtually on its planned dates, 9–11 August. In addition, the 2021 AIAA/IEEE Electric Aircraft Technologies Symposium (EATS) will be held virtually on its planned dates, 11–13 August.
The 2021 AIAA Propulsion and Energy Forum will showcase traditional aeronautics, space propulsion and energy technologies, as well as systems and electric aircraft technologies. Unmatched by any competitive event, the forum will educate, inspire, and challenge attendees to think outside the box and create solutions that will impact change throughout the aerospace industry.
Both forums will offer an enhanced online experience for attendees based on the valuable lessons learned throughout the 2020 and 2021 virtual events AIAA hosted. From easier access to navigate the online event to improved networking opportunities, both forums will offer attendees the quality programming they have come to expect from these two signature events through the years.
“We are not combining the two forums, but rather offering two distinctive events during consecutive weeks to meet the unique technical content needs of each forum community. This new schedule gives AIAA the opportunity to deliver both events with the same high quality virtual experience for attendees,” continued Dumbacher. “Even as we begin to feel comfortable with more face-to-face interactions in the ‘next normal,’ we anticipate future AIAA events will be hybrid in nature – part in-person, part online – to maximize our reach and impact,” he concluded.
